Backgrund and purpose

  • For certain steel grades we experience more defects in products from #200 billets than in products from #165
  • We want to obtain a better understanding of how casting parameters influence the microstructure for #200 billets

Research question

  • Study the microstructure in #200 and #165 cast billets of certain steel produced by continuous casting
  • How can we improve the microstructure of #200 billets to reduce defects in the rolled bars.
  • The expected result is that we will obtain a better understanding of how the microstructure of different steel grades can be optimized by controlling the casting parameters for #200 billets
