Background and description

The OVAKO Hot Rolled Ring department in Hofors performs heat treatment on nearly all our products. The specific heat treatment varies based on the steel grade and customer requirements. Since customers demand specific mechanical properties, it is our responsibility to use the correct temperature and time to achieve these properties. Upgraded furnace control enable us to optimize our current heat treatment programs.

Your responsibilities will include planning and executing trials, performing measurements, sampling materials, and analyzing results. Additionally, you will integrate findings from literature studies to propose optimizations for our heat treatment process. You will collaborate with the production team, our laboratory, and the technical team.

In this thesis, you will learn about the operation of industrial furnaces, the impact of large-scale production on outcomes, and explore the science of steel materials.

• How can we enhance our heat treatment process in terms of time efficiency, energy consumption, and results?
• How can the heat treatment process be designed to ensure consistent properties both within individual production batches and across different batches?

Compensation

Ovako will compensate you for completed master thesis corrsponding to a value per "högskolepoäng". 

We can also in most cases assist with accomodation during the time you are performing your master thesis with us.

Ovako will support with travel to and from our sites for interviews, eventual trips back to the university for meetings with supervisor and equivalent.

Recruitment

Selection will be ongoing and during the process you will get the chance to meet potential supervisors, relevant managers and stakeholder. The process will include ability tests, interviews and references.
